    Indira Gandhi National Open University was established in 1985 to democratize higher education. The aim was to provide cost-effective, quality education to large sections of our population including those living in remote and far flung areas. A mere fifteen years since its inception IGNOU has carved a niche for itself among the premier educational institutions in the country. The University has been a pioneer in Distance Education and the recipient of the Centre of Excellence in Distance Education award conferred by the Commonwealth of Learning in 1993. IGNOU is a Central University established by an act of Parliament in 1985 (Act No.50 of 1985) IGNOU Degrees/ Diplomas /Certificates are recognized by all member Universities of Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and are at par with Degrees / Diplomas /Certificates of all Indian Universities/Deemed Universities/Institutions vide UGC Circular No. F1-52/2000 (CPP-II) dated 5th May, 2004 & AIU Circular No. EV/B(449)/94/177115 dated January 14, 1994.

    Objectives of IGNOU:

    Democratizing higher education by taking to the door step of the learner. Providing access to high quality education to all those who seek it irrespective of age, region or formal qualification. Offering need based academic programs by giving professionals and vocational orientation to the courses. Promoting and developing distance education in India. Setting and maintaining standard in distance education as an apex body for the purpose.

    Achievements of IGNOU:

    Emergence of IGNOU as the largest university in the commonwealth Establishment of distance education council (DEC) for the co-ordination and determination of standards of distance education system in the country. Recognition as center of excellence in distance education by the commonwealth of learning (1993). Taking IGNOU programmes to west Asian countries, Maldives, Mauritius, Nepal and Seychelles. Launching of an IGNOU-ISRO joint channel for organizing a one way video, two way audio tele-conferencing (1993/94).

    As a part of Community Development Initiative, and providing learning opportunities, and reaching out to those who missed College Education, our College is staring INDIRA GANDHI OPEN NATIONAL UNIVERSITY (IGNOU) STUDY CENTER from the academic year 2015-16 with an objective of access to high quality education to all those who seek it irrespective of age, region or formal qualification by distance mode.
